Junko Fukuoka was born on the 27th April, 1950. She is the mother of two daughters. At the age of 35, with over ten years experience in Early Childhood classrooms, she founded “Omni Park for Mother and Child”. Omni Park quickly became renowned not only for its classes for children, but as a school where parents learnt together with their children. Some of the students spend over an hour in traveling time to attend classes. Ms. Fukuoka and “Omni Park” has been featured in many magazine articles – the first issue of “COMO” (Kodansha), “NIKKEI KIDS PLUS” (April, 2006) among them. Ms. Fukuoka is a respected specialist in her field and as such has made appearances on television programs, such as Sekiguchi Hiroshi’s “Sunday Morning” (TBS), Konishi Katsuya’s “Nanda Nanda” (Bunka Hosou). Omni Park was also featured in a program for the German National Educational Television Network. She lectures and conducts seminars on her methods, including lectures at the Tokyo Heidi Museum. Her publications include, “How to Take Your Child’s IQ to 140” (Bookman), “Drills for Scissors that also Expand the Mind” (Nihon Bungeisha), “Rules for Play to Increase Your Child’s IQ to 140” (Seishun Publishing). This last book has also been translated and published in Korea, China and Taiwan. An Introduction to Omni Park
Omni Park was founded by Junko Fukuoka in 1986. Omni Park holds classes for children in preparation for Japanese Private school entrance exams and in early childhood education, but it is much more than this. Parents also attend class and learn how to communicate, how to interact with their children. In Ms. Fukuoka’s words, “Childbirth is instinctual but child rearing is learned.” In particular, Omni Park places emphasis on communication between the parent and child and Ms. Fukuoka believes that if there is good and open communication between the parent and child then the child’s ability and desire to learn will increase and this will be an important anchor when taking school entrance exams. Ms. Fukuoka believes, however, that entrance exams are only one point along a long road. Omni Park is not a “cram school” but a school where children are taught what is needed to form the basis for “life long learning”. It is this that has made Ms. Fukuoka’s “Omni Park” and her methods famous. Over time, Ms. Fukuoka’s methods have been proven to work and she often receives thanks from children and parents long after they have moved on from Omni Park.
